In-house Events CIC is a newly formed Community Interest Company therefore, not-for-profit so all proceeds, over and above costs, are donated back to the facility for it’s ongoing improvement. The purpose of the company is to develop new creative activities for the community whilst increasing use and revenue of Northwood House. The company and concept is that of Stephanie Wilmott-Bayer, a local freelance Arts Project Coordinator. “I’ve been frustrated at having nowhere very fun or accessible to go out through the winter so, I thought an imaginative, funky, regular dance event would keep us warm and social when everything else cools off. To combine a passion for arts with creating something, which benefited the wider community with the potential to be sustainable, is very exciting indeed. The response has been amazing with local companies donating services wherever possible. Happy Daze are contributing all our sound and lighting, Context are contributing all our printing needs, SFX are providing sound equipment and laser lighting and Joe’s and offshore sports have agreed to be outlets. The club has a main dance room, chill out room, chill bar, food, main bar and much more. There is an over 21s policy and the club is membership only both for increased security and to develop an ongoing relationship with our members. However, until we are able to get assurances of continuation from the council membership cards have been temporarily suspended. We have great funky DJs some very experienced and others starting out like our slot for Platform One students, in The Chill-Out Room, to promote and nurture the best of new Island talent. We hope to create opportunities for dancers (sorry no lap or pole this is strictly a class act) and performers of all kinds as we grow. All creative suggestions and offers of support are welcomed. This project has enormous potential to develop as it could provide the community with regular high quality entertainment and activities whilst supporting and involving such a magnificent local facility. Other potential suggested activities are a Jazz Club, Cabaret Club and Salsa. However, being not-for-profit this projects development is entirely dependent on being actively supported through attendance from which, it is hoped, it will grow from strength to strength. The dance nights after the launch night on the 4th Nov will be monthly on the last ‘Saturday of each month until May 07.Crisis!In spite of the events overwhelming success and passing without negative incident, trouble free the I.O.W County Council want to stop these events going ahead. They have made the process very difficult and continue to make unreasonable demands. In order to put on the event on 2nd Dec they are asking for more than double their highest hire charge for the venue, inspire of the fact that over six months ago they agreed to let us have the premises rent free for our charitable efforts. Now they want to penalise us and are asking a whopping £2580 for the day! They are also demanding £3000 cash deposit against anything they deem as cost in spite of our comprehensive insurance. The event is, however, going ahead and looks to sell out on pre-sale alone so, may the demand continue and may they take note! Viva democracy, and the will of the funky people!Steph W-BDirector Smile, Love, dance!
